Starting with our animation testing, we used three scenes taken from the 3ds Max 2016 Tutorial files and 3ds Max 2017 samples files. These scenes cover basic character animation, particle flow, and animations with population simulations.

In our case we've got architects working in SketchUp 2017 / Revit 2017 and visualization artists working in 3ds Max 2016 (though 2017 has the same issue). We had a recurring problem where a particular SketchUp file refused to import into 3ds Max. Every time it'd generate the x32 Reader error above! I ended up stripping the file apart until I found the offending object. However it wasn't corrupt geometry, materials or textures that turned out to be the issue. It was the name of the component! In this case I'm not entirely sure where the component came from - there are clues in the name that suggest it came from Revit however where the component came from isn't the primary issue. You can name a component anything you'd like but the name specifically is the issue here.
A simple component with a critical flaw - a name that's too long (144 characters). Ensure your SketchUp components have names less than 128 characters in length if you want to import your .skp file into 3ds Max 2016 / 2017.
Hi all, we have fixed the download links for the older 2017 and 2016 versions of the Mental Ray software for Maya. Please keep in mind, those products have been built many years back for systems and hardware available at the time. Have fun!

I've been working on a dff importer (EDIT: and exporter) based on librw for 3ds max recently. I think I got to a point where I can release a first version. It should work with 3ds max 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022
I am trying to render autocad 2016 3D in 3DS Max 2014. but I am not getting realistic views (material and lisght effect specially). but when i try to render 3d which is made in 3ds max itself it works perfectly. so i want to ask am i doing anything wrong during importing AutoCAD file in 3DS Max or anything else?
using vray/corona you can have the lights/materials display correctly up to 3dsmax 2016 i believe. I have noticed poor viewport lighting in 2017 in most situations. realtime rendering in a window seems to be a little easier for this for the time being for setting up lights.
It is in the programs folder, like c:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2004. Sometimes a subfolder under that folder like the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2013\BIN folder. And if you were using something like Civil 3D 2016 it may even be in c:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2016\C3D folder. That said, look under c:\Program Files and you can do a search to find all the different licpath.lic files.
